Weatherford International Ltd., which cut thousands of jobs in recent years, reduced its workforce by about 1,000 in the fourth quarter as it made some changes in the U.S. market.
The Ireland-domiciled oil field services company, which operates out of Houston, reported it employs about 30,000 people worldwide. That's down from 31,000 in Weatherford's third-quarter report. A year earlier, Weatherford employed approximately 39,500 people worldwide.
Weatherford also idled its U.S. pressure pumping business during the fourth quarter, which accounted for about $40 million in lost revenue.
